Replacing Gateman Cruz with a Yale YDM 3109A 70mm on Aluminium French Doors

Gateman Cruz was one of the popular digital door locks in Auckland years ago. However, as the model has been discontinued for a while, finding a direct replacement is not easy.

For this job, we replaced the Gateman Cruz digital lock on a set of aluminium French doors with a Yale YDM 3109A 70mm backset digital lock.

Because there are no current digital locks in NZ market that share exactly the same drilling template as Gateman CRUZ, it is not a simple straight swap. The existing holes and cutouts need to be carefully checked first. In this case, the 70mm backset version of the Yale YDM 3109A was the best option, as it helped cover the existing drillings while giving the door a clean and tidy finish.

Additional drilling and preparation were still required to fit the new Yale lock properly. We also used a special Yale French door strike plate, which is designed to suit this type of door setup and helps the lock operate smoothly. Because this replacement involves old cutouts, new drilling, and French door alignment, professional installation is absolutely required for a safe, tidy, and reliable result.
