Adding a Yale Assure SL Above an Existing Mortise Lock

For this timber door, it already had a mortise lock with pull handles fitted. Because the pull handles sit close to the lock area, replacing the existing mortise lock with a digital mortise lock with levers would not have worked well, the handles would get in the way.

Instead, we installed a Yale Assure SL smart deadbolt smart-ready above the existing mortise lock. This allowed the customer to keep their pull handles exactly as they were, while still upgrading the door with keyless entry.

This was a fresh installation, so we drilled new holes in the timber door and frame to fit the smart deadbolt neatly above the current hardware. The end result is a clean and practical setup, with the existing mortise lock and pull handles kept in place.

The Yale Assure SL is a great option for doors where a full digital mortise lock is not suitable, especially when there are pull handles or existing hardware that needs to stay.
