Yale Assure Keyed Deadbolt Installed in Matt Black

For this job, we replaced an existing mechanical deadbolt with a Yale Assure Keyed Deadbolt in matt black, also known as the Yale YRD226.

At first glance, it looked like a simple deadbolt replacement, but the existing bore hole was smaller than the standard 54mm hole required for the Yale Assure. While the smaller hole worked fine for the old mechanical deadbolt, it needed to be carefully enlarged before the new smart deadbolt could be fitted properly.

We also found that the original deadbolt was only “half locking”. The bolt could not fully extend into the aluminium frame, which meant the door was not locking as securely as it should. To fix this, we cut a new strike hole in the aluminium frame and installed a new strike plate, allowing the Yale Assure deadbolt to extend fully into the frame.

The end result is a much cleaner and more secure setup. The door now has the convenience of keyless PIN code access, while still keeping the option of a backup key. More importantly, the deadbolt now locks properly into the frame for better security.

This is a good example of why professional installation matters. A smart lock is only as good as the way it is fitted. Correct bore size, strike alignment and bolt extension all make a big difference to how well the lock works.
