When using a digital door lock, the type of AA batteries you choose is very important. Only alkaline batteries should be used.
Some batteries are labelled as “Heavy Duty”, but this name can be misleading. Most heavy duty AA batteries are actually carbon zinc batteries, which are designed for low-drain devices such as clocks, remote controls or basic torches. They are not suitable for devices like digital door locks.
Digital locks require a strong and stable power supply to operate the internal motor and locking mechanism. If carbon zinc batteries are used, the lock may not have enough power to fully lock or unlock. In some cases, this can cause the internal locking mechanism to become stuck or jammed.
Using the wrong type of batteries may also void the manufacturer’s warranty, especially if the lock fails due to poor or unstable battery power.
Examples of batteries to avoid include:
Always use good-quality alkaline AA batteries only. Do not mix old and new batteries, and replace all batteries at the same time when the lock shows a low-battery warning.
